Norwegian Jewel

The first of Norwegian’s Jewel Class ships pairs a private Haven courtyard, the Bar City trio of lounges and a dining room inspired by a Russian palace with a size that is easy to get around. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

The Original Jewel, Renovated Top to Bottom

Norwegian Jewel entered service in 2005 as the lead ship of the Jewel Class. She carries about 2,370 guests, so she feels relaxed and easy to navigate compared with Norwegian’s newest ships. Highlights include The Haven courtyard and sun deck, Bar City’s whiskey, martini and champagne bars, Bliss Ultra Lounge with its private karaoke rooms, and Tsar’s Palace, a main dining room styled after a Russian palace. Norwegian has since added Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only retreat on Deck 14.

Danny filmed this tour in 2023, right after a four-month renovation that he says left no space untouched. He starts on the pool deck and sports court, then heads through the Garden Cafe, the spa and Thermal Suite, The Haven, the specialty restaurants, the kids’ clubs and the atrium, and finishes in Bar City, the theater and Tsar’s Palace. Norwegian Jewel Highlights

Pool Deck on Norwegian Jewel

Pool Deck

The main pool deck has two pools, one of them lap-size and the other with an accessibility lift, plus four hot tubs and a bandstand in the middle for live island music. Topsiders Bar & Grill serves burgers, hot dogs and fries poolside, and the race-car themed Pit Stop bar looks down over it all. Several tiers of sun deck rise above, with a jogging track, a full sports court and golf nets close by.

Danny's tip: “The lap pool is really perfect first thing in the morning. And I love a steel drum, because it tells me I'm on vacation and ready to go.”

Spinnaker Lounge

The Spinnaker Lounge sits at the very top and front of the ship, with tiered, stadium-style seating stepping up from a dance floor and a full stage facing aft. Windows wrap around for wide, forward-facing views, and a large bar serves the whole room. It hosts live music and dancing before and after dinner, plus trivia, karaoke and lectures during the day. The chapel is just aft.

Danny's tip: “This is the perfect spot to be when you're sailing past glaciers or through any of the scenic parts of the world this ship visits.”

Garden Cafe & The Great Outdoors on Norwegian Jewel

Garden Cafe & The Great Outdoors

The Garden Cafe is the casual buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a salad bar, carving station, made-to-order pasta, a pizzeria, Asian and Indian dishes, desserts and soft-serve, plus a complimentary drink station. Out back, The Great Outdoors has its own buffet line for breakfast and lunch, a full bar, tables under a large awning and seating that wraps around the stern for dinner under the stars.

Danny's tip: “My favorite place on any cruise ship is the aft. The Great Outdoors is a bit of a hidden spot, because some people never go past the Garden Cafe.”

Mandara Spa & Thermal Suite

The Mandara Spa offers massages, facials and a couples' suite with a large soaking tub, along with a full salon and barbershop. Separate men's and women's areas each have a sauna with ocean views, an aromatherapy steam room, a cold plunge and a forward-facing relaxation room with a hot tub. A shared zone adds heated, ergonomic stone loungers and a hydrotherapy pool, with herbal teas and infused waters.

Danny's tip: “I love the heated stone loungers, especially coming back from a great shore excursion. For a treatment, I personally go for the hot stone massage.”

The Haven on Norwegian Jewel

The Haven

The Haven Courtyard is reserved for guests staying in The Haven suites. It has a pool in the middle, daybeds and chairs with ottomans, a small dining area for light bites and continental breakfast, and a bar with coffee and sweet treats. A large hot tub and men's and women's changing rooms with steam rooms sit just aft, and upstairs the private Haven sun deck adds loungers, daybeds and cabanas.

Danny's tip: “I won't say this is a massive area, but what I like about it is that it's intimate. You can usually get away and it's nice and quiet.”

Le Bistro & Moderno Churrascaria

Le Bistro is Norwegian's classic French restaurant, serving dishes like French onion soup, escargot, coq au vin and lobster thermidor in a room with pictures of Paris and blue accents. Moderno Churrascaria is the Brazilian steakhouse, starting with a large salad bar before servers bring skewers of beef, chicken and sausage to the table until guests flip their card from green to red. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar sits right next door.

Danny's tip: “If you love French food, or just want to try it for the first time, stop by Le Bistro and pre-reserve.”

Chin Chin, Sushi & Teppanyaki on Norwegian Jewel

Chin Chin, Sushi & Teppanyaki

Chin Chin is the Asian restaurant, with Chinese-American classics like sweet and sour pork, orange peel beef and wontons. The sushi bar sits alongside it, and rolls, sashimi and nigiri can also be ordered at Chin Chin tables. Tucked in the back, Teppanyaki is dinner and a show, as chefs cook steak, seafood, chicken or vegetables and fried rice on the grill right in front of guests.

Danny's tip: “For my family, Teppanyaki is that perfect time to come together over a meal. It's one of the most popular options on board, so pre-book as soon as you can.”

Bar City

Bar City runs forward of the Azura dining room as three connected bars, each with its own personality. Maltings Beer & Whiskey Bar has beer on tap and a huge whiskey list with tastings. Shaker's Martini Bar pours martinis from a wide gin collection, and Magnum's Champagne & Wine Bar has its own stage for entertainment in front of Le Bistro. The Humidor cigar lounge is just outside.

Danny's tip: “It's a little quieter during the day and really picks up later in the evening. I like that you can pick whichever of the three bars fits your personality that night.”
