Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge
A ridgetop lodge facing North America’s tallest peak, used for one night on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian cruisetours.
The mountain view everyone hopes for
Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge sits on a ridge above the climbers’ town of Talkeetna, and on a clear day the view from the back deck runs straight to Denali, Mount Foraker and Mount Hunter. It’s the only lodging in town with rooms facing the Alaska Range, and the timber lobby, with its 46-foot river-rock fireplace and Alaska Native art, is built around that view.
Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian all use it for one night, usually paired with Denali. Talkeetna itself is a funky little main street of cafes, roadhouses and galleries, a short shuttle ride away, and it’s also a starting point for flightseeing and jet boat trips.
Inside the stay
Rooms & views
Rooms in the main lodge face either the forest or, as an upgrade, north toward Denali and the Alaska Range; suites add gas fireplaces. Separate guest lodges a short walk away have forest-view rooms with exterior entrances. Cruise lines assign room types, so mountain views aren’t guaranteed. The deck and lobby windows give everyone the same view, though.
Dining with a view
Foraker Restaurant is the fine-dining room, with a multi-course menu of Alaska seafood and game, an award-winning wine list and big windows toward the mountain. Base Camp Bistro is the relaxed choice, with a deck, fish and chips and comfort food. There’s also RAW Alaska Oyster Bar and Mt. Hunter Coffee Co. in the lobby for an early coffee.
Talkeetna town
A lodge shuttle runs to downtown Talkeetna during the day, where you’ll find a historic main street of cafes, breweries, shops and galleries. Optional excursions, booked through your guide, include Denali flightseeing (some with a glacier landing), jet boat rides on the rivers and guided hikes. Some Celebrity tours add tastings in town as an included experience.
On the grounds
Almost six miles of trails wind through the property, there are viewing scopes and fire pits on the deck, and the front desk will give you a mountain-viewing wake-up call if Denali comes out. It’s a lodge worth a slow evening.

Before you go
- Ship packages stay on the ship. Your ship dining and beverage packages don’t apply on the land portion of any cruisetour, so plan to pay as you go for meals and drinks at the lodge.
- Ask for the mountain call. Denali hides behind clouds a lot of the time. Ask the front desk for a mountain-viewing wake-up call so you don’t miss a clear moment.
- Check room type early. Mountain-view rooms are an upgrade in the main lodge. If it matters to you, tell your advisor early and we’ll see what the cruise line can request.
- Rooms have no air conditioning. Like many Alaska lodges, rooms rely on open windows on warm summer nights.
