Noordam

Holland America’s Noordam has the classic ocean liner feel the line does so well, with a teak promenade that circles the whole ship, a pool under a glass roof and live music every night. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Classic Liner, Just Right

Noordam is the fourth of Holland America’s Vista Class ships, built in Italy and christened in New York in 2006. Her name comes from the Dutch word for north, and she is the fourth Holland America ship to carry it. Danny calls the class a fan favorite with a classic ocean liner feel. The Lido Pool sits under a retractable glass roof, the promenade wraps all the way around the ship, and art from the Netherlands and around the world fills her public spaces.

Danny calls Holland America the Goldilocks of cruising for many Harr Travel guests: premium food, entertainment and service that sit just right. Since the tour was filmed, the Explorations Café has become the Library Café, and Lincoln Center Stage is no longer on the ship’s venue list. Noordam Highlights

Lido Pool & Magradome on Noordam

Lido Pool & Magradome

The Lido Pool sits under the Magradome, a retractable glass roof that closes in cool or wet weather and opens on sunny days. There's a large hot tub on one side, two smaller ones on the other, and bench seating around the pool for dipping toes. The Lido Bar fills one corner, and the Dive-In grills complimentary signature burgers, hot dogs and fries in the other. The space also turns into a party zone on select days.

Danny's tip: “You can now order from the Dive-In on the Navigator app and just head up to pick it up. My personal favorite is the currywurst, I spent a lot of time in Germany.”

Crow's Nest

The Crow's Nest sits at the very top front of the ship, with windows that wrap about 270 degrees. Loungers with ottomans face forward over the bow, and sofas and tables fill the rest of the room. The Crow's Nest Café pours coffee in the morning and the bar takes over later in the day. A game room with puzzles, cribbage and chess boards is a favorite on long voyages, and big screens host talks and games.

Danny's tip: “This is a great place to start the morning. Come up, read the newspaper, take in the amazing views and grab a coffee.”

Greenhouse Spa & Thermal Suite on Noordam

Greenhouse Spa & Thermal Suite

The Greenhouse Spa & Salon covers massages, facials, medi-spa treatments, seaweed wraps on a float table, a salon and a barber chair for shaves. A relaxation room with ocean views is where each treatment starts and ends. The Thermal Suite is a paid pass with six heated stone loungers, rain showers and three steam and sauna rooms. Next door, the hydrotherapy pool has bubble loungers and a strong water jet for the neck.

Danny's tip: “Head up to the spa on the very first day for a complimentary tour. I've had a bad back for a while, so you'll often find me on those heated stone loungers.”

Lido Market

The Lido Market is the complimentary casual spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with stations on both sides. Highlights include an Asian station with sushi, pot stickers and dim sum, late-night pizza, a made-to-order pasta station, a bread board for sandwiches and charcuterie, and the Wild Harvest salad bar. The dessert station adds an ice cream bar and soft serve. Canaletto sits at the front and serves Italian dinners for a cover charge.

Danny's tip: “I always love to stop by the Asian station. And I can't walk by the ice cream station without grabbing a cookie or two every single time.”

Sea View Pool

Out on the aft deck behind the Lido Market, the Sea View Pool is now an adults-only retreat. Two hot tubs sit beside a nicely sized pool with seating wrapped around it, and the Sea View Bar serves the whole deck. Shaded tables on the side let guests carry out food from the Lido Market. Loungers fill the very back of the ship, and the deck turns into a party space for themed events.

Danny's tip: “My favorite place is always the back of the ship. If we're cruising through some of the scenic areas, this is probably where you're going to find me.”

Neptune Lounge

The Neptune Lounge is a private social space for guests staying in Neptune and Pinnacle Suites. Comfortable seating areas, a large table and games to borrow make it easy to meet up. Light bites run through the day, from pastries, fruit and yogurt at breakfast to snacks later on, with an espresso maker, fine teas and sodas. The concierge team handles dining reservations, shore plans and questions from start to finish.

Danny's tip: “The best feature here is of course the concierge. They can take care of all those dining reservations and answer all your questions.”

Pinnacle Grill on Noordam

Pinnacle Grill

The Pinnacle Grill is generally considered the top restaurant on board, an unapologetic steakhouse with classic cuts, sides and desserts. Booths and tables for two wrap around the atrium for a little people watching, and more seating runs along the windows. Just outside, the Pinnacle Bar is a polished spot for a cocktail before dinner. It carries a cover charge, and the best nights go early, so it pays to reserve ahead.

Danny's tip: “We do recommend you pre-book your time at the Pinnacle Grill, especially for an anniversary. For me it's always going to be that bone-in rib eye.”

Rolling Stone Lounge & Billboard Onboard

Deck 2 is Holland America's Music Walk. In the Rolling Stone Lounge, a live band plays several sets every night, covering hits from the 1950s into the 2000s, with booths and tables around a dance floor. A few steps on, Billboard Onboard puts dueling pianos in the middle of the room for chart hits from the last 50 years, requests, themed nights and music trivia, with seats right up close.

Danny's tip: “I love the dueling pianos. It's one of my favorite entertainment venues on any cruise ship.”

Signature Experiences on Noordam

Wraparound Promenade Deck

Noordam's teak promenade goes around the entire ship, not just part of it. It's a popular walking track on sea days, with padded loungers for reading and ocean views between meals.

World Stage

The main theater has steep stadium seating on two levels, so sightlines are strong. It hosts Broadway-style shows, headliners and expert lectures about the destinations, and the two front boxes are first come, first served.

Main Dining Room

A two-level dining room at the back of the ship, under blown Venetian glass, with Royal Delft pieces made for Holland America. It serves dinner every night, with set or open seating, and a menu that rotates nightly.
