Rotterdam

Holland America’s newest flagship carries a name with more than a century of history, and pairs it with the Music Walk, the World Stage and a deep lineup of specialty restaurants. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Classic Name, Carried Forward

Rotterdam is the third and newest of Holland America’s Pinnacle Class ships, delivered in 2021. She is the seventh Holland America ship to carry the name, and Princess Margriet of the Netherlands is her godmother. Danny calls her a midsize ship with beautiful decor that keeps all the classics guests love and moves them forward. The Lido Pool sits under a retractable glass roof, the World Stage wraps the audience in LED screens, and three live music venues fill the evenings.

Danny sums her up as wonderful live music, delicious food and a phenomenal amount of entertainment. Up in the Crow’s Nest, a model of an earlier Rotterdam and a bell from a previous ship tie her to the line’s Dutch heritage. Rotterdam Highlights

Lido Pool & Magradome on Rotterdam

Lido Pool & Magradome

The Lido Pool sits under Holland America's Magradome, a retractable glass roof that closes when the weather turns hot, cold or wet. Gentle steps lead into the pool, with seating around the edge for dipping toes, plus several hot tubs, the Lido Bar and a large LED screen for parties, big games and movies. Steps away, the Dive-In grills made-to-order burgers, hot dogs and brats, and a gelato and juice bar sits nearby.

Danny's tip: “I love the Dive-In. They give you a little buzzer, so you can go sit anywhere and come back to grab your burger when it's ready.”

Lido Market

The Lido Market is the main casual dining spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it's complimentary. Stations rotate through the cruise and cover hot entrées, a deli with a panini press, Holland America's chopped salad bar, a roasting pan with tacos, brisket and pulled pork, and a pasta station with made-to-order dishes. The Sweet Spot handles ice cream and desserts. Espresso drinks from the coffee bar cost extra, and everything else is included.

Danny's tip: “My all-time favorite is the ice cream with cookies, so you can make your own ice cream sandwich. I'll be by a few dozen times.”

Sea View Pool

All the way aft, behind the Lido Market, the Sea View Pool is now an adults-only escape with open ocean views. There's a full Sea View Bar, lounge seating and tables on both sides, two more hot tubs and gentle steps into the pool. Guests can carry a plate out from the Lido Market and eat in the sun. Danny notes the ship hosts lively deck parties back here, whether she's sailing in the Caribbean or Europe.

Danny's tip: “My favorite views are always out the back of the ship. You can grab your food at the Lido Market and have a delicious meal right out here.”

The Retreat

The Retreat is a private cabana area on the top deck that any guest can rent, for a single day or for the whole cruise. Each cabana is its own tucked-away space with lounge seating, tables and chairs, and dedicated cabana service. Food can be brought up from New York Deli & Pizza, the Dive-In and even the sushi bar. There's even a hot tub in the middle of the deck.

Danny's tip: “Any guest can buy a cabana here, for a day or for the full cruise. I always recommend it if you want your own space to tuck away.”

The Retreat on Rotterdam
Crow's Nest on Rotterdam

Crow's Nest

Perched at the top front of the ship like a crown, the Crow's Nest is a Holland America favorite with about 270 degrees of views. Seats face forward over the bow, lounge seating wraps around, and there's a coffee bar and a full bar. The shore excursions desk is here, along with navigation displays, destination information, a game room and an art studio. A model of an earlier Rotterdam and a bell from a past ship honor the line's heritage.

Danny's tip: “The seats up front are one of my favorite spots to read and grab a cup of coffee in the morning. And pre-book your shore excursions, because they can sell out before you get on board.”

Tamarind & Morimoto By Sea Sushi

Three specialty experiences share this space. Tamarind fills most of the room with Pan-Asian dishes from China, Thailand and Japan. The sushi bar, filmed as Nami Sushi, is now Morimoto By Sea Sushi, with a menu by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Once or twice each cruise, the room also hosts the Morimoto By Sea dining experience. A full bar and lounge seating sit in the corner, and floor-to-ceiling windows look out to sea.

Danny's tip: “I love sushi, and the chefs here are some of the best. Morimoto by Sea is usually only offered once or twice a cruise, so you don't want to miss out on it.”

Greenhouse Spa & Thermal Suite on Rotterdam

Greenhouse Spa & Thermal Suite

The Greenhouse Spa covers a full-service salon and barber shop, a relaxation room, and treatment rooms for massages, facials, wraps and medi-spa services, including couples' rooms. The Thermal Suite adds steam rooms, a cold plunge bucket, heated ergonomic loungers with sea views, a horizontal shower and an infrared sauna. The hydrotherapy pool has massage jets and bubble loungers. Passes are sold for a day or for the whole cruise.

Danny's tip: “Many of our guests buy the Thermal Suite for the full cruise, so they get an entire spa cruise experience. I love the jets in that hydrotherapy pool, they're great for the back.”

B.B. King's Blues Club

B.B. King's Blues Club is the anchor of the Music Walk, with live rhythm and blues inspired by the original B.B. King's in Memphis. The band plays several sets most nights in front of a huge dance floor, with cocktail seating wrapped around it and more seats on the level above. Nearby, the Rolling Stone Lounge plays classic rock hits and Billboard Onboard runs dueling pianos, sing-alongs and requests.

Danny's tip: “They do several sets just about every single night. There's a huge dance floor, so you're going to dance the night away and love every minute of it.”
