Norwegian Escape

Norwegian’s first Breakaway Plus ship pairs a three-story ropes course and Aqua Park with The Waterfront, 678 Ocean Place and a Haven complex with its own courtyard pool. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

The Ship That Launched the Breakaway Plus Class

Norwegian Escape entered service in late 2015 as the lead ship of the Breakaway Plus Class, the bigger, updated design that later produced Joy, Bliss and Encore. She carries about 4,200 guests, and Danny felt her extra open deck space made her feel less crowded than some other ships. Highlights include a ropes course over three decks, an Aqua Park with Free Fall slides, a large Thermal Suite, and Studio staterooms built for solo travelers. She was refurbished in 2022, and Norwegian has announced another refresh adding Palomar, a Starbucks and a pickleball court.

Danny filmed this tour on a boarding day in Miami in 2020, walking you from the pool deck and The Haven down through the spa, kids’ clubs, The Waterfront and the dining rooms. A few venues have changed since: Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is gone, and Syd Norman’s Pour House has joined The Waterfront. Norwegian Escape Highlights

Pool Deck & Aqua Park on Norwegian Escape

Pool Deck & Aqua Park

The main pool deck has a bandstand for live Caribbean music, hot tubs, rows of loungers and the Waves Pool Bar, with big screens overhead. Just aft, the Aqua Park stacks up the water slides, including the Free Fall drop slides, where the floor opens beneath you, and the Aqua Racer tube slide. Younger kids get their own Kids' Aqua Park with a smaller slide, tipping buckets and water cannons. A jogging track circles the deck above.

Danny's tip: “When we were in port, we stayed on the ship because the crowds really cleared out, and my daughter and her cousins went down the slides about a hundred times. One secret on the racer slides: the heavier friend always wins.”

Ropes Course & Mini Golf

Norwegian calls Escape's three-story ropes course the largest at sea. It spans Decks 18 to 20 with more than 40 elements, five Sky Rail zip tracks over the ocean and The Plank, a walk out past the side of the ship. Next to it, a nine-hole mini golf course is complimentary, and the sports complex adds a full basketball court. Guests can reserve ropes course times through the digital screens around the ship.

Danny's tip: “Mini golf is my all-time favorite, and it's one of my favorite cruise memories as a kid. What I love is that it's complimentary. You just step up and grab a ball.”

The Haven on Norwegian Escape

The Haven

The Haven is Norwegian's keycard-access suite complex, with its own lounge and bar, a courtyard pool under a Magradome roof that opens in good weather, two hot tubs, and the Haven Restaurant with indoor and alfresco seating. The courtyard is family friendly, while the Haven sun deck above is for guests 16 and older. Haven suites come with butler and concierge service, and guests still have the run of the rest of the ship.

Danny's tip: “If you're traveling in one of the Family Villas, this is the ultimate family experience, because your kids can use the courtyard and it's very safe and quiet. And the Haven Bar is always where you'll find the best bartenders on the ship.”

Vibe Beach Club

Vibe Beach Club is an adults-only sun deck on Deck 19 with its own bar, a TV for sports, padded loungers and day beds, shade that can be raised or lowered, and an oversized hot tub looking out over the sea. Access is an extra-cost pass for the full cruise, and space is limited, so book early. Norwegian says its fall 2026 refresh will expand Vibe. Spice H2O on Deck 17 is the complimentary adults-only option.

Danny's tip: “What this space is all about for me is sitting back, usually with a piña colada in my hand, looking out at the Caribbean.”

Thermal Suite on Norwegian Escape

Thermal Suite

The Thermal Suite inside the Mandara Spa is sold as a separate pass, and Danny notes it comes with spa-category staterooms. Heated stone loungers face forward over the bow, beside a large hydrotherapy pool with bubble loungers and a lift for guests with limited mobility. The circuit adds a big rain shower, a heated salt room, a windowed sauna, a steam room and a snow room where it actually snows. The spa also has a barbershop and salon.

Danny's tip: “The heated stone loungers at the very front are one of the best places to be on this ship. I've got a bad back, and they make a huge difference. Passes are limited, so grab one as soon as you get on board.”

The Waterfront

The Waterfront is a quarter-mile oceanfront promenade on Deck 8, part of the three-deck 678 Ocean Place. Cagney's Steakhouse, Moderno Churrascaria, Bayamo by Ocean Blue and La Cucina all have indoor and outdoor tables here, with bar service and loungers in between. Inside, The Cellars Wine Bar, Tobacco Road, the Sugarcane Mojito Bar and The District Brew House line the walkway. Danny calls it one of Norwegian's most distinctive features.

Danny's tip: “This is where I usually set up shop with a book or my laptop. When you reserve one of these restaurants, make sure you specify whether you want to dine inside or outside.”

Headliners, Howl at the Moon & Shows on Norwegian Escape

Headliners, Howl at the Moon & Shows

Headliners Comedy Club hosts late-night stand-up and Howl at the Moon, the dueling pianos show where the audience drives the song list. The Choir of Man brings pub songs and sing-along hits, and the Escape Theater stages production shows and game shows. The Supper Club pairs dinner with a show, and the atrium keeps game shows and karaoke going well into the night, with the Atrium Bar right in the middle of it.

Danny's tip: “Howl at the Moon is, in my opinion, some of the best entertainment on any cruise ship because it's so interactive. I saw The Choir of Man on Encore, and it was the best show I've ever seen on a cruise ship.”

Teppanyaki & Deck 6 Dining

Teppanyaki is Norwegian's Japanese hibachi grill, with a small Zen garden and more grill tables than most ships offer. Chefs cook right in front of you with loud music, flying shrimp and plenty of fried rice, which makes it a social, family-friendly night. Nearby on Deck 6, Le Bistro serves classic French dishes like escargot, and Taste, Savor and the two-story Manhattan Room are the complimentary dining rooms.

Danny's tip: “Teppanyaki is my personal all-time favorite, because every member of our family really enjoys it. Pre-reserve it, or book it right when you get on board.”
