Norwegian Sun

Norwegian’s classic mid-size ship pairs a wraparound promenade, a 270-degree observation lounge and a strong lineup of specialty restaurants with itineraries that reach far beyond the Caribbean. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Classic Ship Built for Scenic Cruising

Norwegian Sun entered service in 2001 and was refurbished in 2024. She carries about 1,900 guests, so she feels easy to get around, and her itineraries have ranged from Alaska to some of the more exotic corners of the world. She keeps the touches of classic ship design, including a wraparound promenade deck, a two-level theater at the back of the ship and the Spinnaker Lounge with its 270-degree views. Inside you’ll find Le Bistro, Cagney’s, Teppanyaki, Moderno Churrascaria and Los Lobos.

Danny first stepped aboard Norwegian Sun at her christening more than 20 years ago. He filmed this tour in 2022 in Seattle, just before an Alaska sailing, walking from the pool deck and dining rooms through Bliss, the Stardust Theater, the spa and the Deck 12 restaurants to the atrium. Since then the ship has been refreshed, and the Atrium Cafe now serves coffee and bake shop treats. Watch the full tour below, or jump straight to the part of the ship you care about most.

Norwegian Sun Highlights

Pool Deck on Norwegian Sun

Pool Deck

The Oasis Pool deck has two large pools with hot tubs under an awning in the middle and loungers in the sun and shade all around. Topsiders, the main pool bar, stretches the full width of the ship, facing a stage for live music and deck parties. One level up are Champs Bar, a netted sports court, shuffleboard, a golf net and ping pong, plus a forward sun deck and a kids' pool with its own hot tub.

Danny's tip: “Head up to the forward sun deck when you're doing scenic cruising. Going into the glaciers or one of the more exotic parts of our world, I find you get some great views from up there.”

Four Seasons & Seven Seas

Norwegian Sun has two complimentary main dining rooms on Deck 5, both serving dinner every night from menus that change daily. Four Seasons sits mid-ship with tables for two up to eight and a big table in the middle. Seven Seas, at the very back of the ship, has windows on three sides wrapping about 270 degrees, and also serves breakfast every day and lunch on sea days. Danny says the food keeps getting better.

Danny's tip: “When you come down to Seven Seas for your reservation, check in and let them know you'd prefer a window table.”

La Cucina on Norwegian Sun

La Cucina

La Cucina is Norwegian's Italian specialty restaurant, set in a long, narrow room on the starboard side of Deck 5 between the two main dining rooms. Booths line one side and tables sit along the windows. The menu runs from antipasti and a large salumi plate through fresh pastas, meat, chicken and fish, along with pizzas, and it finishes with Italian desserts. It's an easy pick for families and anyone who loves a relaxed Italian dinner.

Danny's tip: “My favorite here is the burrata caprese salad, and you've got to top it off with the tiramisu. Don't forget they even have some amazing pizzas.”

Garden Cafe & The Great Outdoors

The Garden Cafe is the casual buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with salad bars on both sides, hot entrees, Indian dishes, a made-to-order pasta station, charcuterie, a dessert station and soft-serve ice cream. Out back, The Great Outdoors adds its own grill with burgers, hot dogs and fries, two drink stations and a full bar. Its big shaded aft terrace is one of Danny's favorite features of the ship.

Danny's tip: “On boarding day especially, go all the way to the back, because so many people stop right at the front. And for the soft serve, I put two flavors together and make my own double swirl.”

Mandara Spa on Norwegian Sun

Mandara Spa

The Mandara Spa offers massages, facials, Medi-Spa treatments and body wraps, with solo and couples treatment rooms. Guests booked for a treatment can use the separate steam rooms and saunas for men and women, plus a relaxation room before or after. The full-service salon handles hair, manicures and pedicures and has a barbershop for shaves. Next door, the Pulse Fitness Center has ocean-view cardio machines, weights and a class studio.

Danny's tip: “Stop by the spa reception on boarding day for a complimentary tour, and book right away because sea days fill up. My favorite treatment is the hot stone massage, or deep tissue after a few busy days of shore excursions.”

Cagney's & Los Lobos

Deck 12 is home to most of the specialty restaurants, with one check-in desk for all of them. Cagney's Steakhouse is one of Norwegian's original specialty restaurants and is often among the most popular on board, serving classic starters, premium steaks, sides and desserts. Next door, Los Lobos serves Mexican favorites with mezcal, tequila and margaritas at the bar, bright decor and seating that wraps toward views off the back of the ship.

Danny's tip: “At Cagney's my favorite starter is the ahi tuna tartare, and my favorite steak is the bone-in tomahawk. At Los Lobos, I've eaten my weight in the cochinita pibil and al pastor tacos.”

Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar on Norwegian Sun

Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar

Teppanyaki has four grill tables where chefs cook fried rice with seafood, steak, chicken or vegetarian options right in front of guests, so dinner comes with a show and maybe some flying shrimp. Seats wrap around each table, so it works for a family, a group or meeting new friends. The sushi bar sits right next door, with counter seats facing the chef plus tables along the side for rolls, sushi and sashimi.

Danny's tip: “Teppanyaki fills up quick, so grab a reservation as soon as it's available. For me it's all about the sushi bar. I come for pre-dinner sushi, post-dinner sushi, and sometimes just for sushi's sake.”

Spinnaker Lounge

The Spinnaker Lounge sits at the very top and front of the ship, with a wraparound bar and lounge seating facing 270 degrees of windows. In the evening a live band takes the stage and the dance floor fills up, so it works for music, dancing and time with family. During the day it is usually quiet, with plenty of light, and makes a calm spot to read or watch the scenery go by.

Danny's tip: “When you're going to the scenic parts of the world, this is a fantastic place to be. It's also a great place to sneak away during the day, because it's usually not that loud.”

Wraparound Promenade Deck

An outdoor promenade wraps all the way around the ship, so guests can walk or jog without dodging deck chairs. Danny loves it on sea days, with a book in a lounger or in the scenic areas.

▶ See it · 10:21

Stardust Theater at the Stern

Unlike most newer ships, Norwegian Sun's two-level main theater sits at the very back of the ship. It hosts production shows, guest entertainers and, on longer voyages, destination lecturers Danny enjoys.

▶ See it · 10:48

Moderno Churrascaria

Norwegian's Brazilian steakhouse starts with a salad bar and small bites. Then passadores carve skewers of meat tableside: show the green light to keep them coming, or the red light to surrender.
