Pride of America

Norwegian’s only U.S.-flagged ship sails Hawaii year-round from Honolulu, with four islands in seven days, two overnights and no sea days. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

The Ship Built for Hawaii

Pride of America entered service in 2005 and has no sister ships. She is the only U.S.-flagged cruise ship in Hawaii, which lets her sail round-trip from Honolulu every week without a stop in a foreign port. That means close to a hundred hours in port, overnights on the islands and scenic cruising past the Nā Pali Coast. Every space on board is themed on an American city or landmark, from the Capitol Atrium and Liberty Dining Room to the Mardi Gras nightclub. Her latest refurbishment came in 2025.

Danny filmed this tour in 2022, walking from the South Beach pool deck and sports court down through Moderno, the spa, Cagney’s, Jefferson’s Bistro and the Capitol Atrium to the Hollywood Theatre. A few things have changed since: the 2025 refurbishment moved Splash Academy and Entourage to Deck 6, into the area that held the library and chapel, and added a Starbucks in the atrium. Pride of America Highlights

South Beach Pool on Pride of America

South Beach Pool

The main pool deck has two pools with hot tubs on either side, loungers in the sun and shaded tables underneath, plus cornhole, ping pong, a giant chessboard and shuffleboard. The pool bar keeps drinks coming, and Key West Bar & Grill next door serves burgers, hot dogs and Hawaiian favorites. At night the whole space turns into an entertainment zone, and sun decks with cabanas and a forward lookout sit just above.

Danny's tip: “Be on the pool deck when we sail away. There's a Hawaiian band on the bandstand, and it's that true relaxing resort feeling right from the start.”

Oasis Pool & Waikiki Bar

All the way aft, the Oasis Pool is an adults-only escape with extra-soft padded loungers in singles and doubles, a hot tub a half deck down and the Waikiki Bar just above. The bar has lounge seating, tables for two, four or more and pub-style seats, and its full service extends down to the pool. The aft-facing views make it one of the calmest places on board.

Danny's tip: “With those aft-facing views, this is the spot I come to escape and relax while I'm on board.”

Aloha Cafe & Aloha Lanai on Pride of America

Aloha Cafe & Aloha Lanai

The Aloha Cafe is the casual buffet, running the full width of the ship with stations on both sides, a made-to-order pasta bar, an egg and omelet station, a carvery, pizza ovens, fresh tropical fruit and soft-serve ice cream. A kids' cafe at the entrance is built at a shorter height. Out back, the Aloha Lanai adds a full bar and tables for two or four along the stern, under the U.S. flag.

Danny's tip: “My favorite spot on any cruise ship is the back of the ship. I love that I can grab my food at the Aloha Cafe and head out to the Lanai to eat and watch the islands go by.”

Moderno Churrascaria

Moderno is Norwegian's Brazilian steakhouse, and it was fully redone with new furniture, upholstery and decor. Dinner starts at a large salad bar with small tapas-style bites, then passadores bring skewers of slow-roasted meat from the open kitchen and carve them tableside. A card that is green on one side and red on the other tells them when to keep it coming. Seating runs from window tables for two to booths.

Danny's tip: “Just always leave your card on green and the meat keeps on coming. But don't stock up on the first one that comes your way, because there are a lot of different options.”

Mandara Spa & Thermal Suite on Pride of America

Mandara Spa & Thermal Suite

The Mandara Spa saw major updates, including a full salon, pedicure chairs with massage functions, couples treatment rooms with a soaking tub and a relaxation room with teas and infused waters. The thermal suite, which did not exist before the renovation, adds a unisex sauna and steam room on each side plus heated stone loungers. It requires a separate pass for the cruise. The Pulse Fitness Center nearby is large for a ship this size.

Danny's tip: “Go up on boarding day for a tour of the spa. I've had back problems for a while, so after a day on a shore excursion I head to the heated loungers, and I book my massages right away because they fill up.”

Cagney's Steakhouse

Cagney's is the most popular specialty restaurant on board, an unapologetic steakhouse with appetizers like ahi tuna tartare, crab cake and shrimp cocktail, followed by classic cuts and sides. The Napa Wine Bar sits right in front, so a glass of wine before dinner is a natural start. Danny also notes that full-suite guests get an upgraded à la carte breakfast and lunch at Cagney's.

Danny's tip: “I love to start with the ahi tuna tartare. There's something perfect about having it here in Hawaii. For my steak, it's definitely the tomahawk.”

Liberty & Skyline Dining Rooms on Pride of America

Liberty & Skyline Dining Rooms

Pride of America has two complimentary main dining rooms, each with a grand piano and a captain's table. Liberty, on the upper level, is the dressier of the two, with drapes styled like American flags and statues of figures like Abraham Lincoln and Lafayette. Skyline, one deck below, nods to New York City with Empire State Building details down to the gargoyles. Tables run from two up to a table for 12.

Danny's tip: “Some of my favorite foods I first tried on a cruise ship, so I always use the dining rooms to try lots of new things.”

East Meets West, Sushi & Teppanyaki

East Meets West is a three-in-one Asian dining area. The fusion restaurant mixes Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Californian and Hawaiian flavors, and the sushi bar next door lets guests watch the chefs or order rolls in the restaurant. Teppanyaki has four grill tables that seat up to eight, where chefs cook steak, seafood, chicken, vegetarian dishes and fried rice with plenty of jokes, singing and a tossed shrimp or two.

Danny's tip: “You might find me at the sushi bar before dinner, after dinner or for dinner. I love the surf and turf roll. Teppanyaki is probably the most popular option on board, so pre-reserve it.”

Signature Experiences on Pride of America

The Capitol Atrium

A grand staircase with the Washington Monument rising behind it, the Great Seal of the United States set into the floor and a stained-glass ceiling make this the ship's photo spot and the heart of its Americana theme.

Jefferson's Bistro & John Adams Coffee Bar

Norwegian's French restaurant is named here for Thomas Jefferson, America's first ambassador to France, and sits beside the John Adams Coffee Bar. Danny shares the history: the two presidents died on the same day, July 4, 1826.

Scenic Cruising in Hawaii

The forward sun deck is the spot for scenic cruising, whether that's the Nā Pali Coast on Kauai or, when Kilauea is active, a glimpse of the lava flow. Danny says it is something people pay a lot for on a boat tour.
