Gourmet Dining and Residential Style at Sea

Oceania Riviera entered service in 2012 as the second of Oceania’s O-Class ships, a sister to Marina. She carries about 1,250 guests in 624 suites and staterooms, so she feels spacious without losing the line’s small-ship warmth. Riviera keeps the Oceania favorites, including Polo Grill, Toscana, Red Ginger, Jacques and the Terrace Café, plus the hands-on Culinary Center, an Artist Loft and Aquamar Spa.

Danny filmed Riviera in the Mediterranean right after a renovation, and he says she has given his family some of the best meals of their lives. His tour runs from the pool deck and Horizons to the spa, the lounges and every restaurant. Watch the full tour below, or jump straight to the part of the ship you care about most.

Oceania Riviera Highlights

Horizons on Oceania Riviera

Horizons

Horizons sits like a crown at the top forward part of the ship, with floor-to-ceiling windows wrapping about 270 degrees for big ocean views. It's a relaxing spot on a sea day and a favorite before or after dinner. A full bar, a dance floor and a bandstand turn it into an entertainment space at night, and afternoon tea is served here with classic style. Harr Travel has also used it for group cocktail parties.

Danny's tip: “One of my favorite things to do up here is high tea. It's been a tradition for me since I was a really little guy cruising with my grandmother, and Oceania does it exceptionally well.”

Baristas & the Library

Baristas is Riviera's included coffee shop, with a coffee bar wrapping around the front, skilled baristas and a full bar too. Light bites change through the day, from sandwiches, charcuterie and muffins to appetizers in the evening. Next door, the library has an extensive collection and booth-style seats tucked into reading nooks. Nearby, the card and game room hosts tournaments on longer cruises and keeps puzzles out for anyone who wants to linger.

Danny's tip: “I love to dig into a great book on vacation. Grab a coffee, grab your favorite book and dig in. I'll often stop by the card room to work on a puzzle with friends, too.”

Toscana on Oceania Riviera

Toscana

Toscana is Riviera's large Italian specialty restaurant, and like all the specialty restaurants it is included in the fare. Priority reservations are assigned by stateroom or suite category, so a Harr Travel advisor can help pick the right option. The menu is extensive, running from appetizers and soups through primi and secondi, with an olive oil sampling and desserts worth saving room for. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap all the way around the room.

Danny's tip: “For me the desserts are always where it's at. I generally request a table all the way aft, because I love looking at those views as we sail away.”

Polo Grill & Privée

Polo Grill is an unapologetic steakhouse, with leather seats, windows wrapping around the room and tables for two or four. Expect all the steakhouse favorites, from filet to wonderful seafood, with the sommelier pairing wines from an extensive collection. Set between Polo Grill and Toscana, Privée is an exquisitely decorated private room where a party of up to 10 can order from either menu. Privée comes at an additional cost, so plan ahead.

Danny's tip: “For me it's always about the bone-in ribeye. It's where you're going to get the juiciest steak.”

Terrace Café & Waves Grill on Oceania Riviera

Terrace Café & Waves Grill

The Terrace Café is the buffet-style restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Murano glass chandeliers, a hot line, salad bars and gelato. A grill in the back serves lobster and steak every night. Outside, the aft terrace has tables for two and four, umbrellas on request and drink service. Up on the pool deck, Waves Grill cooks surf and turf, Wagyu burgers and seafood to order, with an ice cream and smoothie bar next door.

Danny's tip: “The terrace at the aft of the Terrace Café is my favorite spot to dine on board. Start your day there with breakfast, or enjoy the sail away from that incredible spot.”

Culinary Center & Artist Loft

Oceania blends enrichment with food, and the Culinary Center is a hands-on cooking school at sea. Guests cook at stations running up and down the room while large screens and cameras show exactly what the chefs are demonstrating. Classes change through the cruise and often focus on the destinations being visited, so reserve ahead. Next door, the Artist Loft has an artist in residence leading classes on painting, sketching and the places the ship visits.

Danny's tip: “I love doing cooking classes around the world. I think the best way to learn about a culture is through the food, and my wife always loves when I improve my cooking skills.”

Grand Dining Room & Martinis on Oceania Riviera

Grand Dining Room & Martinis

The Grand Dining Room sits all the way aft on Deck 6, with windows wrapping around the room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are plated and served à la carte, with classic favorites every day plus rotating dishes and destination-inspired menus. There are tables for two and four, larger tables for groups and a big wine closet. Forward, the Grand Bar leads to Martinis, a lounge with a baby grand piano, live music and expertly made cocktails.

Danny's tip: “I always ask for a table towards the aft; I love that view. I also love trying the cuisine from the different destinations we're visiting.”

Jacques & Red Ginger

Jacques is the French specialty restaurant, with a menu designed by Chef Jacques Pépin, French provincial decor and tableside preparations. Classic French dishes sit alongside modern takes, and a full rotisserie turns behind the scenes. Next door, Red Ginger serves Asian fusion with Japanese sushi and sashimi, a chef's special and dishes from China and Thailand, plus a little California twist. Its striking red decor, chandeliers and artwork make the room a piece of art.

Danny's tip: “One of the best things I've ever had on any cruise ship is the herb-crusted rotisserie chicken at Jacques. Get ready for some delicious butter.”
