The Ship That Launched the Sphere Class

Sun Princess sailed her maiden voyage in the Mediterranean in February 2024 as the first Sphere Class ship and the largest in the Princess fleet. She carries 4,300 guests and was named by actress Hannah Waddingham. She moved the brand forward in many ways: the Dome, the Arena, the Sanctuary Collection of staterooms, and Spellbound by Magic Castle all made their Princess debut on this ship, built around the MedallionClass experience.

Danny, Harr Travel’s Princess expert, starts above the pool deck and works his way through the Sanctuary Club, the Lotus Spa, the Piazza, the specialty restaurants and the kids’ clubs, from Firefly Park to the Underground teen lounge. Watch the full tour below, or jump straight to the part of the ship you care about most.

Sun Princess Highlights

Pool Deck & The Dome on Sun Princess

Pool Deck & The Dome

The main pool deck has two pools big enough to swim laps, with seating around the edges and loungers in the water. Lido Slice, Lido Tacos (with tacos and shawarma), the Lido Grill and Coffee & Cones keep lunch easy, and the Movies Under the Stars screen shows first-run films and big games. Above it all sits the Dome, a glass-roofed venue with a stage, padded tiered loungers, aerial acts at night, an indoor/outdoor pool and the Cascade Bar.

Danny's tip: “Both main pools are big enough for laps, so I swim earlier in the day or later in the evening. On boarding day, the Dome is a great place to relax before you head to your room.”

Seaview & Wake View Terraces

Sun Princess has open-air retreats at both ends. Forward, the Seaview Terrace and Seaview Bar are adults-only, with a pool that connects into the Dome, plenty of loungers and some shelter from the wind. Terraced tiers with day beds step down to views straight over the bow. All the way aft, the Wake View Terrace has an infinity pool, two hot tubs, lounge seating and the Wake View Bar, a favorite spot for sail away.

Danny's tip: “Walk all the way down the forward terraces. Looking straight out the front of the ship is one of my favorite spots when you're sailing through the most scenic parts of the world.”

Sanctuary Club & Suite Lounge on Sun Princess

Sanctuary Club & Suite Lounge

The Sanctuary Collection is new for Princess, a ship-within-a-ship for guests in Sanctuary suites, mini-suites and balconies. Its Sanctuary Club sits on the top deck with a bar, food service all day, a pool big enough for laps, a hot tub, day beds and extra-padded loungers that run to the aft. Private cabanas cost extra. Suite guests also get the two-level Signature Suite Lounge, with a grand piano, light bites and concierge service.

Danny's tip: “My personal favorite from the Sanctuary Club menu is the waffle. And the aft end is always my favorite spot, with a book, a cocktail and that fresh ocean air.”

The Piazza

The Piazza is the ship's gathering place, with three stories of glass windows, lounge seating that steps up several decks, a moving stage, a DJ and aerial acts from above. Around it are Coffee Currents, Bellini's cocktail bar, Crooners piano bar, the International Café and Alfredo's Pizzeria with its open kitchen. Makoto Ocean serves sushi, sashimi and a full tasting menu, and it's one of the most popular specialty options on board.

Danny's tip: “I've spent many, many nights at Crooners across the fleet. I love that there's always a piano and a great musician.”

The Piazza on Sun Princess
The Arena & Casino on Sun Princess

The Arena & Casino

The Arena is unlike any theater Princess has built before. It's a theater in the round, with a stage that rises and lowers, a huge LED screen and seats that wrap around the sides, so every view is close. Expect aerial acrobatics, singers, dancers and guest entertainers, and it's the largest cast Princess has had on a ship. Nearby, the casino has roulette, craps, blackjack and poker tables plus a wide range of machines.

Danny's tip: “The Arena is the main theater on board, and you definitely don't want to miss the shows.”

Umai, Sabatini's & Crown Grill

The specialty lineup runs deep. Umai pairs teppanyaki tables, where the chefs keep you laughing, with hot pot on the side. Sabatini's Italian Trattoria is bigger on this ship, with handmade pastas from an open kitchen, caprese and tiramisu. The Crown Grill remains the classic Princess steakhouse, and The Catch by Rudi, from celebrity chef Rudi Sodamin, focuses on seafood. Depending on your package, some specialty dining may be included.

Danny's tip: “At the Crown Grill, for me it's all about the ribeye. At Sabatini's, the menu is so big you'll probably need to come back a few times, and my all-time favorite is the carbonara.”

O'Malley's & Good Spirits at Sea on Sun Princess

O'Malley's & Good Spirits at Sea

O'Malley's Irish Pub has been a big hit, with live Irish music, pub food and Guinness on tap. Princess Live! hosts trivia, game shows and comedy, and the Wheelhouse Bar is back for a pre-dinner drink. Good Spirits at Sea is a bar with a teaching twist: cameras over the bar put the mixologist's work on screens all around, and the bartenders walk you through making cocktails or mocktails, recipes included.

Danny's tip: “Good Spirits at Sea often takes people a while to find, but it's phenomenal. They'll show you how to make a few cocktails and even give you the recipes to take home.”

Lotus Spa & The Enclave

The Lotus Spa has expanded treatments for Sun Princess, from massages and wraps to acupuncture, med-spa services, teeth whitening and a new IV therapy offering, plus a salon and barber shop. Couples rooms come with their own shower. The Enclave thermal suite (extra cost) has heated ergonomic stone loungers, a hydrotherapy pool with bubble loungers, a steam room, a salt room, a sauna and experience showers to use as a circuit.

Danny's tip: “I always recommend stopping by the spa on the first day, when you can tour it and add the Enclave. The heated stone loungers are great for back issues like mine, and after a long trip I prefer a bamboo or deep tissue massage.”
