Brilliance of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s glass-wrapped Radiance Class ship pairs ocean views almost everywhere you turn with a glass-roofed Solarium, a rotating bar in the Viking Crown and a mini golf course wrapped around the stern. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Radiance Class Ship Built for the View

Brilliance of the Seas entered service in July 2002 as the second Radiance Class ship. She is a Panamax ship, built as large as the original Panama Canal locks allowed, so she can sail Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean and far beyond. Acres of glass, glass elevators and a climate-controlled Solarium keep the ocean in view in any weather, and a 2013 revitalization added Izumi, Chops Grille and Giovanni’s Table.

Danny first sailed Brilliance in 2003 on a 12-night Mediterranean cruise, and his family has been back several times since. He filmed this tour in 2022, starting on the pool deck and Solarium, then working through the Viking Crown, Adventure Ocean, the spa, the Centrum and the specialty restaurants before finishing in the two-story main dining room. Brilliance of the Seas Highlights

Pool Deck & Solarium on Brilliance of the Seas

Pool Deck & Solarium

The main pool deck has a large pool, two whirlpools and loungers in sun and shade, with the Pool Bar anchoring it all and a big LED screen for movies and games at night. The Sky Bar serves the sun deck above. Forward, the glass-roofed Solarium is climate controlled, with a pool crossed by a small bridge, a hot tub, the Solarium Bar and Park Café for grab-and-go bites and a salad bar.

Danny's tip: “I really like the shallow entry in the Solarium pool. You can sit on the side and just put your toes in the water to cool off.”

Rock Wall, Mini Golf & Sports Court

Brilliance was one of the first Royal Caribbean ships with a rock climbing wall, and it is still included in the fare. Nearby are a gentle waterslide and splash area for younger kids, plus a half-court for basketball, soccer and dodgeball. The mini golf course wraps around the very top of the stern with lighthouses, statues and wide-open wake views. Shuffleboard sits close by, and the Challenger's arcade costs extra.

Danny's tip: “The mini golf at the back of the ship is one of my secret spots. Head up there when you're cruising past glaciers, fjords or any really scenic area.”

Izumi on Brilliance of the Seas

Izumi

Izumi is the first specialty restaurant on the tour and Danny's personal favorite. The sushi bar is the place to sit, with booths and window tables for larger groups. The menu goes well beyond sushi rolls and sashimi, with soups, small plates like chicken karaage and pork gyoza, teriyaki, ramen and poke bowls, and desserts such as mochi ice cream and a warm chocolate lava cake. It costs extra, alone or with a dining package.

Danny's tip: “If my wife is looking for me on the ship, I'm almost always at the Izumi sushi bar. I get the Izumi spider roll and the Ryu futomaki roll just about every time.”

Windjammer & the Aft Decks

Danny calls the Radiance Class Windjammer his favorite buffet design, because the stations are spread out instead of packed into one line. It has made-to-order salads, hot dishes, paninis, pizza, burgers and a dessert station. Both ends have outdoor seating, and the aft deck is tiered, so guests can carry a plate outside and watch the wake. Complimentary soft serve is right nearby, and drink service covers the whole area.

Danny's tip: “This spot at the very back of the ship is where you'll almost always find me, sitting and looking out at the wake as we sail away.”

Viking Crown Lounge & Suite Lounge on Brilliance of the Seas

Viking Crown Lounge & Suite Lounge

High in the Viking Crown, the lounge Danny knows as the Starquest has walls of windows, a grand piano for the cocktail hour and a big dance floor for game shows, trivia and late-night parties. Its bar has a rotating seating platform, one of Royal's quirkier firsts. Nearby, the Suite Lounge serves full-suite guests and top-tier loyalty members with a concierge, specialty coffee, light bites and an outdoor area. Crown & Anchor's Diamond Lounge is up here too.

Adventure Ocean & Teens

Royal Babies and Tots cares for little ones from 6 to 36 months, with a nap area, reading time and movie time. Adventure Ocean splits kids into Aquanauts (3 to 5), Explorers (6 to 8) and Voyagers (9 to 11), with crafts, science, gaga ball, video games and dance parties. Teens ages 12 to 17 have their own lounge with a dance floor, DJ booth, gaming consoles and foosball, plus sports and pool events around the ship.

Danny's tip: “Head up to Adventure Ocean on your very first day, right after the safety drill, and tell them exactly who can pick up your kids. We always authorize my parents.”

Vitality Spa & Fitness Center on Brilliance of the Seas

Vitality Spa & Fitness Center

The spa has separate men's and women's locker rooms, each with a complimentary sauna and steam room, which Danny notes is rare on ships today. A relaxation room opens and closes each treatment. The Thermal Suite costs extra by the day or the cruise, with an ocean-view steam room, aromatic room, ice and rainforest showers and heated stone loungers. One level up, the gym has ocean-facing treadmills, machines, free weights and a studio for classes.

Danny's tip: “My personal favorite treatment is the hot stone massage or a deep tissue massage. I have a bad back, so I love the hot stone loungers before or after a shore excursion.”

Centrum, Bars & Shows

The Centrum climbs the full height of the ship, with glass elevators, a stage, a dance floor and the retro R Bar. Café Latte-tudes overlooks it from Deck 5, Vintages wine bar sits above, and the nautical Schooner Bar hosts piano sing-alongs, which Danny calls a must on every Royal cruise. Forward, the stadium-style Pacifica Theater stages production shows like Now and Forever, and Brilliance also has a real movie theater, the English Pub and Casino Royale.

Danny's tip: “Handle anything you need at Guest Services in the middle of the cruise. The first and last days get a lot busier.”

Signature Experiences on Brilliance

The Rotating Bar

In the Viking Crown Lounge, the bar's seating platform turns slowly while the bartenders stay put, so the view keeps changing as you sip. Danny calls it a novelty that really caught on.

Self-Leveling Pool Tables

Brilliance has gyro-stabilized pool tables that stay level even when the ship is moving, a feature first introduced on the Radiance Class. They are complimentary and sit near the Schooner Bar.

▶ See it · 48:36

Chef's Table

An exclusive multi-course dinner with wine pairings for a small group, where the chef presents and explains each course. It costs extra, and seating is limited.
