Mariner of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s amplified Voyager Class Mariner of the Seas pairs The Perfect Storm slides, a FlowRider and mini golf with The Bamboo Room, Playmakers, Jamie’s Italian and an ice rink. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Voyager Class Favorite, Amplified

Mariner of the Seas joined the fleet in November 2003 as the fifth and final Voyager Class ship, the class that introduced the three-story Royal Promenade, the rock climbing wall and an ice rink at sea. Her 2018 amplification added The Perfect Storm waterslides, The Bamboo Room tiki bar, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, Jamie’s Italian, a bigger Izumi with hibachi tables, laser tag and a new mini golf course up front.

For Danny, she’s a homecoming. He sailed Mariner many times when she was based on the West Coast, including big group cruises with family and friends. His walkthrough was filmed in early 2020, so a few details have changed since, and Harr Travel can confirm what’s on board today. Mariner of the Seas Highlights

Pool Deck & Solarium on Mariner of the Seas

Pool Deck & Solarium

Mariner's tiered pool deck has two large pools, one geared to sports and one to families, plus two big hot tubs, a pool bar with a steel drum band and a large screen for movies and games. A sun deck between the Sky Lounge and the pool bar is reserved for suite guests and Pinnacle members. Up front, the adults-only Solarium (16 and up) has two massive hot tubs, plush padded loungers and its own Solarium Bar.

Danny's tip: “The running track is great later in the evening or early in the morning, before all the chairs are out and it gets crowded.”

The Perfect Storm & FlowRider

The 2018 amplification turned the old rollerblading rink into a top-deck playground. The Perfect Storm is a pair of racer waterslides, so two riders launch at the same time and race to the bottom. Next door, the FlowRider surf simulator has seating all around it, with open sessions for stand-up surfing and boogie boarding, plus lessons and private rentals. A divider in the middle lets two people ride at once. Both are complimentary.

Danny's tip: “Everyone has to fill out the liability form before riding. Kids can't sign it themselves, so parents need to head over with them.”

Sports Deck & Mini Golf on Mariner of the Seas

Sports Deck & Mini Golf

The sports court is the heart of the sports deck, with basketball, ping pong tables tucked out of the wind and Royal Caribbean's signature rock climbing wall, which started on the Voyager Class. The aft corner now has hammocks, swings and a kids' climbing area. The mini golf course moved to the very front of the ship during the renovation, with a pirate theme and a classic lighthouse. It's complimentary and open any time of day.

Danny's tip: “Some of my favorite memories on any cruise are playing mini golf, as a kid with my family and now with my daughter. It's free, and you can play any time of the day.”

Viking Crown & Lounges

The Viking Crown Lounge sits high above the pool deck with massive views. By day it's a quiet spot to read; at night it becomes the ship's main nightclub, with live music, a DJ booth and a full bar. The Suite Lounge was fully redone for suite guests and Pinnacle members, with a concierge, snacks, evening cocktails and a private outdoor deck. Diamond members and above have the Diamond Club and its outdoor terrace overlooking the sports court.

Danny's tip: “As a Diamond member, I can make complimentary espresso drinks in the Diamond Club, and on boarding day it's a nice place to relax before the rooms are ready.”

Jamie's Italian & Chops Grille on Mariner of the Seas

Jamie's Italian & Chops Grille

Danny calls Jamie's Italian the most beautiful space on the ship. Added in the amplification, it serves Tuscan-inspired comfort food from Jamie Oliver, with handmade pastas and the famous plank of meats and cheeses. Chops Grille is original Royal Caribbean, an unapologetic steakhouse with an open kitchen, so the aromas reach your table. Both are extra cost, and the Windjammer buffet next door was fully redecorated in the renovation.

Danny's tip: “At Jamie's, I love the charcuterie board and the handmade pasta. At Chops, the bone-in ribeye is my favorite, along with the colossal shrimp.”

Adventure Ocean

Adventure Ocean has its own space for each age group: Aquanauts (3 to 5) with a little slide, a fort and kid-sized bathrooms; Explorers (6 to 8) with video games, art and a dance floor; and Voyagers (9 to 11). Teens 12 to 17 get the Living Room lounge and the Fuel nightclub. Royal Babies and Tots cares for little ones from 6 months, including diaper changes, naps and feeding, for an hourly fee.

Danny's tip: “The arcade games are an additional charge, so talk to your kids about it first. Set a budget for the whole cruise or per day.”

Royal Promenade & The Bamboo Room on Mariner of the Seas

Royal Promenade & The Bamboo Room

The Royal Promenade debuted on the Voyager Class: a three-story indoor street lit by skylights. It has Guest Services, duty-free shops, the Barnacle and Barrel pub with a guitarist most nights, Café Promenade for pizza and sandwiches late into the night, Starbucks and Boleros for Latin music and dancing. The Bamboo Room, added in the amplification, is an old-school tiki bar with handcrafted cocktails. Danny calls it his favorite place to hang out.

Danny's tip: “For the parades and the 70s party, I grab one of the seats outside the pub super early. It's well worth it, because the people watching is amazing.”

Izumi & Nightlife

Izumi Hibachi and Sushi on Mariner is bigger than the version on the Oasis Class, with five hibachi tables where the chefs flip shrimp and get the table singing, plus a sushi bar (extra cost). Next door, the nautical Schooner Bar has a piano bar with sing-alongs. The large casino has live-dealer table games, including poker, and a bar in the middle. The Royal Theater stages Broadway-style production shows and comedians.

Danny's tip: “You'll find me right at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are fantastic, and it's incredibly fresh.”

Signature Experiences on Mariner

Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade

Added in the amplification, Playmakers has TVs all around, a pool table, giant Jenga, foosball and arcade games, plus a true pub menu (extra cost). Danny says the food is a level above standard fare.

▶ See it · 31:15

Studio B Ice Rink

A full ice rink with a circus-themed production ice show, open skating, 50s sock hops and The Quest, the adults-only scavenger hunt. Danny fell in love with the rink when it debuted on the Voyager Class.

▶ See it · 40:28

Main Dining Room

The complimentary dining room spans decks 3, 4 and 5, with gold touches, a giant chandelier and a grand stairway. Danny believes the Voyager Class dining rooms are the most beautiful in the fleet.
