Quantum of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s original Quantum Class ship introduced the North Star, skydiving at sea with RipCord by iFLY, bumper cars in the SeaPlex, and robot bartenders at the Bionic Bar. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

The First Quantum Class Ship, Built for Any Weather

Quantum of the Seas entered service in November 2014 as the first Quantum Class ship and Royal Caribbean’s first smart ship. She debuted a long list of firsts, from the North Star and RipCord by iFLY to Two70, Music Hall, Wonderland and the Bionic Bar. With an indoor pool, the climate-controlled SeaPlex and walls of glass, she was designed to be just as much fun in Alaska as in the tropics.

Today she spends the Australian summer sailing from Brisbane to the South Pacific and New Zealand, and the northern summer sailing to Alaska from Seattle. Danny filmed this tour in Alaska in 2022, so a few details, like the show lineup, may have changed since. Watch the full tour below, or jump straight to the part of the ship you care about most.

Quantum of the Seas Highlights

Pool Deck & North Star on Quantum of the Seas

Pool Deck & North Star

The main pool sits raised above the deck, ringed by loungers and facing a big LED screen for movies and deck parties. There are two large hot tubs, the Sky Bar, and a kids area with a mini wave pool, a splash pad and tiny loungers. Overhead, the North Star capsule swings guests high above the ship on a giant crane arm. Danny calls riding it into the glaciers a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Danny's tip: “One of my favorite bars on this ship is the North Star Bar. I grab a drink there before or after riding the North Star.”

RipCord by iFLY & FlowRider

RipCord by iFLY brought indoor skydiving to sea for the first time. Guests get a briefing, a flight suit and a helmet, and instructors adjust the wind speed for each flyer, with kids starting as young as four. Next door, the FlowRider surf simulator is complimentary, with sessions for beginners and advanced riders. The rock climbing wall has routes for every level, including some just for kids.

Danny's tip: “I sign the waiver at the desk before anything else. Kids need a parent there to sign with them. On the FlowRider, I love the boogie board option.”

SeaPlex on Quantum of the Seas

SeaPlex

The SeaPlex is a climate-controlled indoor sports and entertainment zone, warm when it’s cold outside and cool when it’s hot. Its court hosts basketball, pickleball, dodgeball and free-throw contests, then turns into the bumper car track, another first at sea. There are arcade games, ping pong and an Xbox lounge up above. The SeaPlex Dog House serves complimentary hot dogs and brats, a favorite that started on the Boardwalk of Oasis of the Seas.

Danny's tip: “The SeaPlex Dog House is complimentary, so I grab a hot dog before we hop on the bumper cars.”

The Solarium

The Solarium is an adults-only retreat over two levels at the front of the ship. It’s climate controlled like a winter garden, with a cascading pool that steps down into smaller pools, hot tubs, day beds and padded loungers facing the bow. The Sunshine Bar keeps drinks coming, and observation wings above the bridge are great for photos. Just inside, the Solarium Bistro serves breakfast and lunch, then a complimentary Mediterranean menu at dinner.

Danny's tip: “The Solarium Bistro is one of my secret spots on boarding day. A lot of people never find it, even later in the cruise.”

Kids & Teens on Quantum of the Seas

Kids & Teens

Adventure Ocean spreads across two decks. A nursery with drop-off care looks after little ones from six months to three years, including naps, meals and diaper changes. Kids 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 11 each get their own space, with crafts, games, video games and a science lab. Teens have the Fuel nightclub and the Living Room, with recliners for video games, a library and movie nights.

Danny's tip: “On the very first day, I register my daughter and tell them exactly who can pick her up and drop her off. They won't release her to anyone else.”

Two70

Two70 is named for its 270-degree wall of glass at the back of the ship. By day it’s a lounge for scenic cruising and movies. At night the floor-to-ceiling windows become a projection screen, six robotic screens move with the performers, and parts of the floor and ceiling open for aerial acts. Starwater is the signature show here. Café @ Two70, next door, serves complimentary made-to-order sandwiches, soups and salads.

Danny's tip: “Café @ Two70 is tucked toward the back, so a lot of people don't find it until day two, three or four. I stop by for a quick bite.”

The Suite Experience on Quantum of the Seas

The Suite Experience

Guests in a Grand Suite or above, and Pinnacle Club members, get the Suite Sun Deck with day beds and wraparound views, the Suite Lounge at the back of deck 12, and the concierge. They can also dine at Coastal Kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Danny calls Coastal Kitchen the best suite perk. Star Class loft suites add a Royal Genie, and junior suite guests can book some Coastal Kitchen dinners based on availability.

Danny's tip: “If you're in a junior suite, stop by Coastal Kitchen on the first day and set up a few dinners. It isn't guaranteed every night.”

Specialty Dining

Chops Grille is Royal Caribbean’s original specialty restaurant, and Danny calls it an unapologetic steakhouse. Quantum Class ships tuck the Chef’s Table inside Chops, a multi-course dinner paired with fine wines, with the chef explaining each course. Izumi serves sushi, sashimi and rolls, and Jamie’s Italian has handmade pastas. Specialty dining carries an extra cost unless you have a dining package or Star Class. Danny recommends reserving early.

Danny's tip: “At Chops, my favorite appetizer is the pork belly, and the ribeye is my favorite cut. I make a reservation as early as possible.”

Introduced on Quantum

The Bionic Bar

Royal Caribbean's first robot bar debuted here. You order on a tablet, robotic arms mix your drink, and you tap your card to collect it. Danny's daughter loves to sit and just watch the robots work.

Music Hall

This two-story venue debuted on Quantum and has since spread across the fleet. Live bands play a different style each night, with pool tables in the back and bars on both levels. Danny and his family danced to 50s and 60s hits here.

▶ See it · 1:16:28

Wonderland

The very first Wonderland, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. You paint your menu with water to reveal whimsical dishes that look like one thing and taste like another. It's a small room, so Danny recommends booking as early as you can.
