Rhapsody of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s light-filled Vision Class classic pairs a glass-topped Centrum and a refreshed pool deck with Izumi sushi up in the Viking Crown and a cozy, mid-size feel. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

A Vision Class Classic, Freshly Renewed

Rhapsody of the Seas began sailing in May 1997 as the second Vision Class ship, built in Saint-Nazaire, France. With about 2,040 guests at double occupancy, she is a mid-size ship designed around natural light, with glass skylights over the Centrum and floor-to-ceiling windows from the Windjammer to the Viking Crown. A three-month dry dock in 2024 refreshed the pool deck and sun decks, and she still carries Royal favorites like the rock climbing wall, Chops Grille and the Schooner Bar.

Danny first sailed Rhapsody nearly two decades before coming back to film her in 2024, just after her dry dock. His tour starts on the pool deck, climbs to the Solarium, the Windjammer and the Viking Crown, then works through the spa, Adventure Ocean, the Centrum and the Royal Theater before finishing in the Shall We Dance Lounge. Watch the full tour below, or jump straight to the part of the ship you care about most.

Rhapsody of the Seas Highlights

Pool Deck & Movie Screen on Rhapsody of the Seas

Pool Deck & Movie Screen

The pool deck is where the 2024 renovation shows most. A large pool sits in the middle with room to sit on the edge, several hot tubs nearby and new sun loungers wrapping around the upper decks. A big pool bar serves both levels. An outdoor movie screen with speakers shows movies and sporting events, and it is a great spot in the evening. Up top, there is shuffleboard, a jogging track and plenty more sun deck space.

Danny's tip: “They do have lifeguards on duty and life jackets for the little ones, but as always, make sure you keep an eye on the kids.”

Solarium & Park Café

The Solarium is a bright, climate-controlled retreat with Egyptian hieroglyphic theming, a pool down the middle, two hot tubs and extra-padded loungers. Since Rhapsody sails all around the world, it is a welcome spot in cooler climates. Inside, the complimentary Park Café serves continental breakfast, made-to-order salads, panini and snacks into the evening, along with the fleet-famous kummelweck roast beef sandwich. The bar here keeps the drinks coming.

Danny's tip: “If you want a place that's a little warmer, relaxed and climate controlled, make sure you stop by the Solarium.”

Viking Crown & Suite Lounge on Rhapsody of the Seas

Viking Crown & Suite Lounge

The Viking Crown is the reason you can spot a Royal Caribbean ship from far away, and Rhapsody's still goes strong. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap the room, making it a relaxing lounge by day, then it turns into a nightclub with a DJ booth and dance floor late in the evening. The Suite Concierge Lounge is also part of the Viking Crown, open to Grand Suites and above for continental breakfast, appetizers and an evening happy hour.

Danny's tip: “In the Suite Lounge, I love that they have the espresso maker you can use any time of day, plus tea and my favorite, the hot chocolate.”

Izumi Sushi

At the very top of the ship, on the crown of the Viking Crown Lounge, Izumi is one of the biggest Izumi restaurants in the fleet, and it gets lots of natural light and views. The sushi bar turns out rolls and sashimi, and there are teriyaki-style dishes and chicken karaage for guests who don't love sushi. Edamame is a natural start. Izumi is a specialty restaurant, available as part of a dining package or à la carte.

Danny's tip: “Izumi is my happy place. For me it's the champagne lobster roll or the rainbow roll, well, pretty much all of them, and my kids love it too.”

Vitality Spa & Fitness Center on Rhapsody of the Seas

Vitality Spa & Fitness Center

The Vitality Spa sits aft with ocean views, offering massages, facials, teeth whitening, manicures and pedicures, plus a full salon and barber shop. A relaxation room starts and ends each treatment, and the couples treatment room is a romantic option. Complimentary steam rooms, saunas and locker rooms are part of the spa. A stairway leads up to the fitness center at the top aft of the ship, with cardio machines, free weights and an aerobics studio for spin and yoga.

Danny's tip: “I always recommend stopping by on boarding day to tour the spa and book your treatments. They fill up fast, especially on sea days, but you can get some great port day specials.”

Adventure Ocean & Teen Spaces

Adventure Ocean groups kids by age, from 3 to 12, with counselors who have backgrounds in child development. There are TV stations, arts and crafts, video games and active play. Royal Babies and Tots is a drop-off nursery for little ones from 6 to 36 months, with cribs, naps, changing and feeding, and it runs into the evening. Teens get their own club with a dance floor, foosball and video games, plus an arcade next door that costs extra.

Danny's tip: “On the first day, it's really critical that you stop by and register your kids. You'll let them know who can drop them off and pick them up, so I put my mom and dad on the list too.”

Centrum, R Bar & Schooner Bar on Rhapsody of the Seas

Centrum, R Bar & Schooner Bar

Rhapsody's Centrum is flooded with daylight through glass skylights, with seating on several decks so guests can enjoy the entertainment from above. At the bottom, the retro R Bar has a full stage for live music and parties. Guest Services and the shore excursion desk are nearby. Along the shops, Café Latte-tudes pours Starbucks drinks, and the nautical Schooner Bar is a classic piano bar where guests can sit at the piano and request songs.

Danny's tip: “Boarding day and the last day tend to be busier at Guest Services, so I always recommend stopping by during the middle of the cruise.”

Chops Grille & Giovanni's Table

Chops Grille is the classic steakhouse, with favorite cuts, seafood options and an open kitchen you can smell as soon as you walk in. The recently renovated room has floor-to-ceiling views, and suite guests eat breakfast here each morning. Giovanni's Table covers Italian favorites, from pasta dishes to tiramisu, generally open for dinner every night and often for lunch. Both need reservations and can be booked ahead or covered with a dining package.

Danny's tip: “At Chops I like to start with the shrimp cocktail and the pork belly, and I'm always going to have the ribeye. It's the tastiest and the juiciest.”

Signature Experiences on Rhapsody

Rock Climbing Wall

First added on Voyager of the Seas, the rock wall was such a hit that Royal put one on every ship. Rhapsody's is complimentary, with an easier kids section and tougher routes in the middle.

Royal Theater

Broadway-style production shows, comedians, magicians and guest lecturers. Danny thinks the balcony seats here are some of the best in the entire fleet, with stadium seating down the middle.

Shall We Dance & Crown Lounge

An aft lounge with a big dance floor, bingo, trivia and live music nightly. Tucked in its back corner, the Crown Lounge serves Royal's most loyal members breakfast, snacks and a happy hour.
