Seabourn Encore

Seabourn’s intimate, all-suite Encore carries about 600 guests, with Solis and Sushi included in the fare, private cabanas at The Retreat, and a marina that lowers from the stern for water sports. We’ve walked the decks and filmed the rooms, so you can see your room before you book.

Small-Ship Luxury, Encore Class Style

Seabourn Encore was delivered in late 2016 and named in Singapore in January 2017, the first of the Encore class and a sister to Seabourn Ovation. She is a little larger than Seabourn’s earlier ships, with an extra deck and a reimagined Seabourn Square, yet she still feels like a private yacht. Every suite faces the ocean and has a veranda, and the fare covers fine wines and spirits, all the restaurants and the service Danny calls the heart of Seabourn.

Danny says Seabourn is all about the crew, and this tour shows why the spaces work so well for them. He starts at the pool and The Retreat, then heads through the spa, Solis, Sushi, Seabourn Square and The Club, down to the aft marina and The Restaurant. Seabourn Encore Highlights

Pool Deck & The Patio on Seabourn Encore

Pool Deck & The Patio

The main pool sits at the center of a tiered sun deck, with a pair of whirlpools, shaded loungers and bars on two levels. A ledge runs around the pool so guests can sit with their toes in the water. Below, The Patio is a classic pool grill by day, with a made-to-order menu and a buffet. In the evening it becomes Earth & Ocean, a complimentary restaurant inspired by the regions the ship visits.

Danny's tip: “What I love about the pool is the area all around it where you can sit, dip your toes in the water and have a nice, relaxing time.”

The Retreat

High on Deck 12, The Retreat is a private hideaway found only on Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation. Fifteen cabanas ring a large central whirlpool under a flower-shaped canopy. Each cabana has curtains that pull shut, a fan, a flat-screen TV and Bluetooth headphones, with a dining table and loungers just outside. A dedicated bar and menu serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Retreat carries an extra charge, booked by the day or for the whole cruise.

Danny's tip: “You can reserve it for a day or for your entire cruise, and you get a better bargain on the full cruise. Many of our guests do that.”

The Spa & Thermal Suite on Seabourn Encore

The Spa & Thermal Suite

Seabourn does spa exceptionally well, and Encore's spa has a full salon, a men's barber shop and a relaxation room with infused waters and teas. Treatment rooms include couples rooms, and the locker rooms each have a sauna open to all guests. The extra-charge thermal suite adds experience showers, an aromatherapy steam room, a Mediterranean sauna and six heated stone loungers, with a day pass or a better-value pass for the full cruise.

Danny's tip: “Stop by the very first day to tour the spa and book treatments. I love hot stone massages, but after a long flight a bamboo or deep-tissue massage goes a long way.”

Solis

All the way aft, Solis serves a Mediterranean menu with flavors from Italy, Spain, Greece and beyond, built on the ingredients Seabourn is known for. A bar and lounge with a piano anchors the entrance, and many guests stop in for a cocktail even when they aren't dining. A wine room sits at the center of the dining room, and a large outdoor terrace offers al fresco seating. Solis is complimentary, with reservations required.

Danny's tip: “Dining al fresco on the outdoor terrace is always my favorite, especially here in the Mediterranean.”

Sushi on Seabourn Encore

Sushi

Encore is one of only two Seabourn ships with a dedicated sushi restaurant, alongside her sister Seabourn Ovation. Chefs make rolls, sashimi and nigiri to order, and the restaurant is generally open for lunch and dinner every day of the cruise. Like every restaurant on board, it's included in the fare. It makes an easy, lighter meal between bigger dinners, and Danny calls it an absolutely delicious option.

Danny's tip: “I stop by here every single day, at least once or twice. I've got to do my best to stay healthy, and what better way to get those omega-3s.”

Seabourn Square

Danny compares Seabourn Square to the plaza at the heart of a European city, where everybody gathers. Baristas make espresso, lattes and cappuccinos, and the counters carry pastries, sandwiches and artisanal gelato, with dairy-free sorbets too. A full library lines the wall, Guest Services sits in the middle, and floor-to-ceiling windows look out to sea. Outside, an aft terrace has sofas, recliners and tables, and the future cruise desk is close by.

Danny's tip: “My favorite thing to do is grab a cup of joe, head out to the aft terrace and read a book. For me, the best views on the ship are out the aft.”

Aft Pool & Marina on Seabourn Encore

Aft Pool & Marina

The aft pool deck is a quieter spot, with two whirlpools, a pool you can sit along and loungers facing the wake. Below it is one of the signatures of this class of ship: a marina that lowers from the stern on select days at anchor. Guests can kayak, paddleboard or ride the banana boat, with Zodiacs launched by crane. Marina days in places like the Mediterranean and Caribbean often bring Seabourn moments such as Caviar in the Surf.

Danny's tip: “If you love the aft as much as I do, those chairs on the aft pool deck are going to be your favorite spot on this ship.”

The Restaurant

The Restaurant serves plated breakfast, lunch and dinner across the full width of the ship, with natural light from both sides, chandeliers and elegantly set tables. The menu is extensive, and on the day Danny filmed there were 14 appetizers and salads to mix and match. Tables for two sit alongside larger tables for meeting new friends. Just before it, the atrium carries natural light down through the ship around elegant wood and glass.

Danny's tip: “What I love about cruising is that it's the perfect place to try something new. They've got all your favorite classics, and then you can step out and try something different.”

Observation Bar

Perched at the top of the ship and facing forward, it has floor-to-ceiling windows, a central bar and a baby grand piano. It's ideal for a cocktail before or after dinner, with outdoor space for views.

The Colonnade

The casual restaurant serves breakfast and lunch from stations and grills, plus dinner. Danny points out the beef from Snake River Farms and calls the aft terrace his favorite spot to eat.

The Club

All the way aft, The Club is the place for live music and dancing every evening, with a bar, seating wrapped around a dance floor and a bandstand. The Grand Salon hosts the bigger shows.
