Royal Caribbean Group to Launch Celebrity River Cruises with the Order of 10 River Ships
Royal Caribbean Group has just announced the order of 10 ships for a brand new premium river cruise line - Celebrity River Cruises!
Royal Caribbean Group is diving head first into the premium river cruise industry with the creation of their first ever river cruise line – Celebrity River Cruises. The company has put in an initial order for 10 vessels, proving to the world that they are not just dabbling in the market, but are committed to bringing their loyal guests an incredible river cruise experience.
An Exciting Growth Opportunity
“We see river cruising as an exciting growth opportunity that aligns with our strategy of turning the vacation of a lifetime into a lifetime of vacation. River cruising is a sizable and attractive market that has experienced double-digit growth over the last decade. Driven by increasing demand from both seasoned cruisers as well as new customers. It is a very fragmented market that presents an exciting opportunity for us to win substantial market share.”
— Jason Liberty, CEO of Royal Caribbean Group
Ship Details and Timeline
Liberty went on to say that the ship would be in the 180 passenger capacity range, with a plan to deliver the first two ships in 2027. After that, the company will follow with four more ships per year moving forward. In addition, children will be welcome onboard the ships, and each vessel will have many activities, including those with culinary and entertainment focuses.
Future Outlook
For Royal Caribbean Group, Liberty also had this to say about the future outlook for the company’s river cruise options, “As we build up this engine for river under Celebrity it will provide opportunity for our ultra-luxury guests to consider a river experience under Silversea. We are going to start off with Celebrity where we think there is great scale opportunity”.
