What’s New on Xcel: Bora, Mosaic and Spice

Bora

Deck 15, Aft

Bora is Xcel’s headline restaurant, an open-air Mediterranean spot up by the Rooftop Garden. Celebrity starts every meal with a welcome celebration in the garden, then live Mediterranean music, cocktails and regional wines. It has an open kitchen, overhead fans and heaters, and glass that wraps around the dining room. The staff bring it to life like a Greek family meal, so expect a little singing and maybe some napkin waving.

Brunch is the big draw. Celebrity’s menu includes unlimited Bloody Marys with over-the-top toppings and Mediterranean twists on classics, like “French toast with orange zest, figs, and pistachios.” We loved the butter-poached lobster and the pancakes. At dinner, Bora turns into a sunset spot, with complimentary spritzes and shareable dishes such as “fresh sea bream with garlic and parsley” and “lamb tagine with saffron couscous, dry fruits, toasted almonds, and mint.” It’s an extra-charge venue and one of the most popular on the ship, so book it early. For more, see our Bora rooftop dining preview.

Danny’s tip: “I’m going to say it’s the best new restaurant in the entire cruise industry. I dream about that butter poached lobster, the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Mosaic

Deck 4, Aft

Mosaic sits all the way aft, just below The Bazaar, with floor-to-ceiling windows, booths, tables for two and four, and an open kitchen. Its menu follows the destination. Celebrity’s chefs put their own spin on the signature dishes of the places you’re visiting, so the restaurant “takes on a whole new flavor wherever you are.” The night we filmed, it was serving a Caribbean-inspired menu. Mosaic is an extra-charge venue and it’s very popular, so reserve early.

Spice

Deck 5, Aft (in The Bazaar)

Spice is the included, fast-casual counter just inside The Bazaar. Its menus change with each festival The Bazaar celebrates during your sailing, so the flavors follow your itinerary. You can build your own bowl, make your own sandwich or grab something ready-made. There’s a coffee bar on the opposite side and a new enclosed seating area. The Bazaar also hosts Chef’s Studio, Celebrity’s first destination-inspired cooking classes.

Included Dining on Celebrity Xcel

Xcel has four main restaurants, and you can move between them during your cruise. The menus share some dishes, and each one adds its own regional specialties. All four have tables for two and four and can seat larger groups.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant

Deck 4, Aft

Think New York City bistro. Celebrity describes the food as “new American with global influences,” and you walk in past a wine display. The spaghetti here is a standout.

Cyprus Restaurant

Deck 4, Aft

Cyprus honors the Greek heritage of the Chandris family, who founded Celebrity. The menu leans Mediterranean, with seafood and “simple, clean dishes.”

Normandie Restaurant

Deck 3, Aft

Normandie pays tribute to the SS Normandie, the famous ocean liner, and serves contemporary French cuisine. Order the duck breast or the baked brie.

Tuscan Restaurant

Deck 3, Aft

Tuscan serves Italian classics with “all homemade pasta prepared with rustic flair.” It’s the most beautiful of the four main restaurants, and the pasta with ragù is the dish to order.

Danny’s tip: “Make sure you stop by Tuscan. It’s my personal favorite of the four.”

Oceanview Café

Deck 14, Aft

The Oceanview Café is the included buffet, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, and it’s one of the best buffets in cruising. A bakery greets you at the entrance. Beyond it are made-to-order stir-fry and pasta, a salad bar that makes Caesar salad to order, Indian and Asian dishes, made-to-order sandwiches, a fromagerie, daily chef’s features, and a grill and carvery with roast beef, turkey and chicken. Handmade pizza is available day and night. Complimentary infused waters, juices, iced tea, drip coffee, tea and hot chocolate are at stations around the room. Head all the way aft to the Oceanview Bar and the outdoor tables over the wake.

Il Secondo Bacio, inside the Oceanview Café, serves specialty coffees and freshly squeezed juices at an extra charge. On the way in, Scoops serves soft-serve, ice cream and gelato. Some of it is included and some costs extra.

Mast Grill

Deck 14, Midship

The poolside grill is where you’ll find burgers, hot dogs and fries. It’s close to the new Celebrity Pool Club, so lunch is only steps from your lounger.

Specialty Restaurants on Celebrity Xcel

Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud

Deck 4, Midship

Le Voyage is the top restaurant on the ship and one of the best in the industry. Chef Daniel Boulud, Celebrity’s Global Culinary Ambassador, takes his inspiration from travel. You can order the wine-paired tasting menu or choose dishes à la carte. Tables are for two and four, so it works for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends, and there’s a private dining room for groups. It costs extra, and it’s worth every penny.

Fine Cut Steakhouse

Deck 5, Midship

Fine Cut is one of the best steak experiences in cruising. Celebrity calls it “the ultimate steakhouse at sea,” with “premium dry-aged prime cuts perfect for two.” There are seafood options too, plus a big wine collection and sommeliers to pair it all. Some tables sit by the floor-to-ceiling windows, and others look down over the Grand Plaza. Learn more in our closer look at Fine Cut Steakhouse.

Danny’s tip: “For me, it’s that amazing ribeye. And I’ll call it, it’s the best Caesar salad in the cruise industry.”

Raw on 5

Deck 5, Midship

If you love sushi and seafood, this is your spot. The menu was crafted by restaurateur and sushi chef Yoshikazu “Yoshi” Okada, and it runs “from lobster and sashimi to oysters and sushi.” Order the seafood tower, and don’t skip the crab legs. Raw on 5 is generally open for lunch and dinner. It has a sushi bar, booths and seating that spills out toward the Grand Plaza.

Le Grand Bistro & Le Petit Chef

Deck 4, Midship

By day, Le Grand Bistro is Xcel’s Parisian boulangerie-patisserie. Start your morning with the canelés or any of the pastries, which cost extra and are worth it. At lunch it’s a bistro with a rotating menu and daily favorites. In the evening the space becomes Le Petit Chef, a dinner show where ceiling projectors animate tiny chefs on your table while you eat a multi-course meal. Le Petit Chef has an extra cost, so reserve it ahead of time.

Dinner on the Edge

Magic Carpet, Deck 5, Midship

The Magic Carpet, the platform that moves up and down the side of the ship, becomes an open-air dining venue for Dinner on the Edge. When we filmed, it was set for dinner on Deck 5. It’s an extra-charge experience you won’t find off the Edge Series, and it’s one not to miss. Read more about it in our Magic Carpet guide.

Craft Social

Deck 4, Midship

Xcel’s neighborhood pub pours craft beers, wines and cocktails, and the food may be even better than the drinks. Celebrity’s menu includes “mac n’ brie, Kobe beef sliders, and crispy glazed chicken wings.” You can connect to the big-screen TVs from your phone. Food and drinks here cost extra.

Café al Bacio & Gelateria

Deck 4, Midship

This European-style café serves espresso drinks, cappuccinos and lattes, plus pastries, desserts and gelato from morning until late. It opens onto the Grand Plaza, which makes it a great spot for people-watching. Specialty coffees cost extra.

Suite and AquaClass Dining

Luminae at The Retreat

Deck 16, Forward

Guests in Retreat suites get Luminae for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, and the menu includes complimentary Daniel Boulud signature dishes. It wraps around the front of the ship, with tables for two by the windows, tables for four or six, room for larger families, and a sommelier to pair your wine.

The Retreat Sundeck

Decks 16–17, Forward

The two-level Retreat Sundeck has its own full restaurant, open from about 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Order the Luminae burger or the lobster roll, and the bar is right there.

Blu

Deck 5, Aft

Blu is reserved for guests in AquaClass and the Aqua Sky Suite, for breakfast and dinner every day. Expect spa-inspired cuisine alongside classic favorites, in a room with tables for two, four and larger groups. Read more in Is AquaClass Worth It?

Bars Worth Knowing on Xcel

  • Martini Bar (Deck 3, Midship, in the Grand Plaza): flair bartending under a chandelier that lights up in the evening.
  • World Class Bar (Deck 5, Midship): top mixologists and cocktail classes.
  • Sunset Bar (Deck 15, Aft): Moroccan-themed, designed by Nate Berkus, with seating wrapped around the stern for sail-away views.
  • The Bazaar Bar (The Bazaar, Aft): destination-inspired cocktails that change with each festival.

Tips for Booking Dining on Celebrity Xcel

  • Reserve Bora and Mosaic first. They’re Xcel’s newest restaurants and among the most popular on board.
  • Book Le Petit Chef ahead. It’s a show as much as a dinner, so pre-reserve it.
  • Ask about a Specialty Dining Package. Celebrity sells multi-night packages on most ships, and some top Retreat suites (Royal Suite and above) include specialty dining. Your advisor can tell you whether a package makes sense for your sailing.
  • Don’t skip the included venues. The four main restaurants, the Oceanview Café and Spice hold their own against plenty of paid restaurants.
